Anderson Jr. Disapproves the Chiefs vs Texans Refs

"We knew it was going to be us versus the refs going into this game," Will Anderson Jr., a defensive end for the Houston Texans, said in a post-game interview. Will believes the officials in the Texans 23-14 loss to the Kansas City Chief (The two time reigning champions of the NFL) were biased. The reason Anderson Jr. felt this way seemed to be because of two close calls that went in the Chief’s favor. The extra yardage up the field of both plays helped K.C. secure ten points, which without, the Texans would have stayed in the mix much more, or even let them win the game. One of the two penalties was on Will Anderson Jr., when the officiating staff pinned him for roughing the passer. Patrick Mahomes threw a nice pass to Travis Kelce that ended in an incomplete, when Anderson appeared to make contact with Mahomes above the shoulders, around the upper neck. This call boosted the Chiefs 15 yards forward, and their drive ended in a field goal, which put the Texans down three. Anderson seemed to disagree with this call, but the officials always win. Anderson made "forcible contact to the face mask area" on the play. "I had forcible contact to the face mask area and so I went with roughing the passer on that play," Martin said to a pool reporter after the game. The next call seemed equally outrageous if not more insane. An unnecessary roughness penalty was assessed to both Henry To’oto’o and Folorunso Fatukasi. Patrick Mahomes ran the football, and to avoid a tackle, he slid on the ground. When a quarterback slides, they are considered defenseless, or they can’t be hit. To’oto’o and Fatukasi tripped over Mahomes, earning the Chiefs another 15 yards. This possession ended in a touchdown for the Chiefs, which extended the lead to 20-12. "So, he slid, obviously, and when he slides, he is considered defenseless," Martin said. "The onus is on the defender. I had forcible contact there to the hairline, to the helmet." However, the defense weren’t the only ones making critical errors. On the first play of the game, the Texans kicked off, and Houston’s special team allowed 63 yards. They made up for it though, by knocking out the ball for a fumble, however, the running back for the Chiefs beat the Texans to the football, and recovered it for them. Fairbairn, the Texans kicker, also wasn’t on point today. After a quick touchdown by Joe Nixon, Ka’imi kicked an extra point to try to tie the game up at 13 a piece. However, he missed the attempt, and a field goal later in the game too. The offense also wasn’t doing their job. Young 23 year old quarterback, CJ Stroud was not getting the protection he needed to throw in time. Stroud lost yardage on 23 plays, and got sacked eight times. Both of which are career lows for him. Stroud did his best to stay away from the sacks, rushing 42 yards, but couldn’t save himself from the defensive line. Frustrated, Stroud said, "[we] Can't continue to shoot ourselves in the foot and then not overcome it and expect to win."
