Arizona Tops #3 Iowa State After Caleb Love Drains Clutch Heave
Caleb Love had the “best moment of his life” when he drilled a game-tying half court shot to send Arizona (an unranked team) into overtime against the number three ranked team in the nation, Iowa State. The Arizona Wildcats ended up winning the game later in overtime, 86-77. Caleb drilled two more threes in overtime to secure the win. Love ended the game with 22 points, a team high.
All seemed lost when Iowa State’s Joshua Jefferson drilled a free-throw to extend the lead to 3 points. Caleb was 1-10 from the perimeter when the ball was thrown to him, and he had to jack up a last-second three from half-court. His prayer was answered, and the ball bounced off of the backboard.
"You just got to give it up to God at that point. We practice half-courters in shootaround, you know, that's the fun of it. We do that shot at practice, and like I said, you got to give it up to God, and that was all him,” Love said reflecting on the shot. Love said he will remember this moment the next time he finds himself in a shooting slump.
Arizona outscored the Cyclones 15-4 in overtime, winning them their first game against a top 5 team as an unranked squad.
