Brunson Sidelined for At Least 2 Weeks After Ankle Sprain vs Lakers
Jalen Brunson sprained his right ankle after taking contact mid jump in overtime against the Lakers. After getting up and nailing both free throws Kobe-esque, he limped off the court and into the locker room. The Knicks posted on their X (formerly known as Twitter):
Jalen Brunson sustained a sprain to his right ankle. An update on his status will be given in approximately 2 weeks.
Brunson saved the Knicks from a loss with a three point play late in the 4th quarter that sent the game into overtime. He led the team with 30 points and 10 assists, a double double.
“His mental toughness is through the roof. It doesn’t surprise me the way he played the whole game [until his injury]. He still keeps battling and battling,” Knick's head coach Tom Thibodeau said about Brunson, who is the team’s franchise player.
The Knicks are currently in third place in the Eastern Conference, only behind the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers. However, The Knicks might fall in the ranks with Brunson out. The game against the Lakers started a 5 game West Coast Trip, and if they lose more than three of the four upcoming games, the Milwakuee Bucks could jump over them in the standings.
“It’s next man up. He’s a huge part of our team. We’ve been playing with grit and have to go out there and do it again,” said All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns.
