A Good Man With a New Idea; Maverick Carter Working to Start NBA Opposition League
Maverick Carter, Lebron James life-long friend and personal manager, is part of a group of private investors that is attempting to raise five billion dollars in an effort to form a league that would compete against the NBA (National Basketball Association).
Maverick’s Relationship with Lebron
Maverick Carter was always in the James’ family’s inner-circle, which is a big deal because Lebron bonds with little to no people. Carter and Lebron played together on an AAU team as children called the Shooting Stars. They played together through high-school on the Varsity team at Saint Vincent-Saint Mary’s and little known, they both played Varsity football in high school as well. When Lebron got drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003, Lebron hired an agent. However, that didn’t last long, and James formed his own personal agency business and hired Maverick Carter to be the head of it. He took Carter as his manager, and some of his other childhood friends joined in on the company.
The New League
So far, everything is speculation, but lots of inside sources have said some to the press. The league is looking to have 6 men’s five on five franchises and 6 womens. The league would compete around the world, and teams would play in more unique places. Lebron has expressed high interest in becoming an NBA team owner when he retires, but if Maverick and the other investors succeed in their journey, maybe the king of the NBA would own a team in this start-up league instead.
Other Leagues
The NBA has not had a successful competitor since the NBA merged with the ABA to bring in teams like the Nuggets and Pacers, but maybe this league would be high-quality competition. Another new league is Unrivaled, who’s first game is tonight at seven thirty (To read more go to, New Women’s Three on Three League is Less Than 10 Days Away).
