Nottingham Forest's Amazing Resurgence
In 1979 and 1980, Nottingham Forest was on top of the world. European champions winning two in a row; whilst beating teams like Real Madrid and Liverpool to reach the peak of European football. However, fast forward to the early 21st century, and Nottingham is in the mud. They are commonly in the relegation battle and are fighting with other teams to stay in the top flight. So how did a Champions League winning team go from that to battling with the likes of Burnley and Watford to stay at the level they once dominated? To observe how their new manager is rejuvenating their team, we first must observe how Nottingham got into this pothole that lasted for so long. So get ready, get a snack, and prepare to see how Champions League winners went to relegation, and back to league contenders.
After the miracle win in the 1980 Champions League, Nottingham began to rapidly decline in terms of form, and trophies. They commonly bounced between leagues, not staying in one league for a single season. Their form was prodigiously inconsistent, and it took them several seasons to stay consistently in the Premier League. However, they were still in the relegation battle almost every season. This is where our story starts, a new Nottingham that might bring trophies to the historic club.
This season, we have begun to see the form that made Nottingham back-to-back Champions League winners. They are currently 3rd in the Premier League; only behind teams like Arsenal and Liverpool. Their manager has been a tactical genius, employing Chris Wood as a deadly goal-getter. We believe that Nottingham could be genuine contenders for the league, and hope to see them at the top of Europe once again.
