Joe Mazulla Fined 5 Digits For Targeted Comments To Ref
On December 21st, Joe Mazulla received a $35,000 fine for how he talked to the officials of the 12/19 game against the Bulls. Mazulla “crashed out” after 3 technical fouls had been assessed to the Celtics (one to Jayson Tatum (Their starting PF), one to Brown (Their starting SF), and one to Joe Mazulla). In defense of the fine, Mazulla said, “I just hadn't seen them (the officiating referees) in a while, so just a merry Christmas, happy holidays. I wasn't sure I was going to see them before the holiday. I just can't let a moment go by where you wish someone just the best to them and theirs and their families.” The video evidence of how Mazulla acted highly suggested his excuse was a bluff. The reasons for these technical fouls were “Overt actions towards the ref (Tatum), and Questioning the Integrity of the Officiating (Brown).” Jaylen Brown was not happy with any of these calls, and claims nobody said or did anything. “You can’t threaten people with technical fouls,” Brown said.
