Fox, A Spur? The Kings Trade Away Precious Point Guard

The Sacramento Kings finalized a deal that ships away De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs in a three way trade. The Spurs are set to receive nothing but Fox, which is 100% worth it. The Spurs don’t have many veterans on their team, and now with additions of CP3 and Fox, the Spurs have experience to compliment Victor Wembanyama. The Kings will add Zach Lavine (from the Bulls, the third team in this deal), Sidy Cissoko, three first round picks, and three second round picks. The Bulls will acquire Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, and their first round pick back. De’Aaron Fox is one of the most valuable aspects in the league, and his departure/arrival may change the playoff picture in the West. So the question is, who won this deal? Kings Trade Grade: A The Kings knew De’Aaron Fox wanted out. So what did they do? They found an exceptional trade that gifts them a border-line all star, and six picks, three of which are first round. Not only are they three first round picks, one of them is the Charlotte Hornets pick. The Hornets are towards the bottom of the league, and are going to get a lottery pick. With a draft class full of talent, a talented guard, and role players, considering what was on the line, the Kings executive staff played their hand exceptionally. However, the only question is, if Fox is gone, what will that mean for Domantas Sabonis when he eventually enters free agency? Overall though, Sacramento gets an A on their assignment. Spurs Trade Grade: A The Spurs only had to give up three role-players in exchange for a superstar player to lock in their back-court. De’Aaron Fox will most likely play shooting guard, which will get Victor Wembanama more drive and kick options to the perimeter, and give Chris Paul a secondary option to handle the rock. However, adding Fox puts up a probability of throwing off the starting line-up dynamic with Vassel also playing guard. However, Gregg Popovich will have no issue dealing with this one minor issue. Overall, the Spurs benefited greatly. If only they brought in a little more depth…. Bulls Trade Grade: C- Now fully invested in the rebuilding stage, there is no turning back for the Chicago Bulls. Sending Zach Lavine, their franchise player, away in exchange for Kevin Huerter, Tre Jones, Zach Collins and the rights to their own first-round pick in 2025, which they had previously traded away. It’s the right move considering they’re trying to rebuild, they'll get a shot at one of the most hyped collegiate players, Flagg, but their fan base will take a massive hit. With Lonzo Ball returning after multiple mass injuries, the Bulls may look to also get rid of the point guard later this trade deadline, which would nerf their wins if they’re going for Cooper Flagg. Overall, while the trade makes sense for the franchise, it isn’t fun to see.
